2018-19 Season RECAP: Piedmont College Men’s Basketball

The Piedmont men’s basketball team finished the year with a 5-20 record with a 4-14 mark in conference play. The Lions earned all five wins on the home court inside Cave Arena and were led by a pair of seniors, Taylor Mills and Marquise Lanier, who accounted for over 600 points combined.

The Lions were led throughout the season by seniors Taylor Mills, Marquise Lanier, and Tariq Abdulgader. All three posted career-highs over the span of the 2018-19 season. Lanier scored 32 points in a win over Pfeiffer scoring four 3-pointers and adding five boards. Abdulgader’s career-high 13 points came in the following game, but was not enough to lift the Lions over Maryville. Taylor Mills scored 28 for a new career-high against Brevard including six 3-pointers.

Mills led Piedmont with 319 points over the season averaging 12.8 per game. The senior posted his best performance of the year against Brevard with a career-high 28 points including six 3-pointers. Mills scored 10+ points in 15 contests.

Lanier also bested his career-high points mark in 2018-19 with 32 points v. Pfeiffer. He too scored in double figures 12 times over the course of the season and averaged 11.9 points per game.

Riley led the team in rebounds with 135 this season averaging 5.4 per contest. The junior posted a double-double against Greensboro with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lions earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the fifth straight season. Five individuals earned NABC Honors Court honors over the summer including Tariq Abdulgader and Cole Huskey.

The Lions’ 2018-19 wins all came on the home court inside Cave Arena. This senior class combined for 36 home wins.

Piedmont Head Coach Greg Neeley’s overall record moves to 71-83 in six seasons.

Assistant men’s basketball coach Jake Brooks wrapped up his fourth season at Piedmont.
