Habersham Central’s Peyton Irvin is this week’s Fan Vote winner for BLITZ Player of the Week. Irvin received 3,921 votes to clinch the honor. Banks County’s Ty Burchett trailed him with 2,335 votes.
Irvin, a senior, has shouldered much of the pressure for the Raiders this season. After losing so many key playmakers over the past two seasons, Habersham looked to Irvin to lead the 2019 charge. He has not disappointed, as the Raiders now stand at 12-3 overall prior to region play.
In his last four games, the infielder hit .450 while driving five runs, scoring seven, and patiently earning four walks. He rose to the occasion on the mound as well, earning two wins with 11 scoreless frames and 11 strikeouts. This is Irvin’s long-awaited first Player of the Week award. Overall this season, according to MaxPreps stats, Irvin is batting .500 with 9 RBI, 6 2B, 11 R, and 6 SB. He’s also 2-1 record-wise on the hill with a 1.47 ERA, striking out 24 batters in 19 innings.
BLITZ also recognized Burchett and Jefferson’s Lane Watkins for their achievements.
