Demorest Police and local drug agents arrested and charged two men Thursday with trafficking meth. 78-year-old Jaspar Jerry Carlan reportedly told officers he’s been selling methamphetamine for 20 years and had never been caught.
Until now.
Police nabbed Carlan and two others on drug charges following a six month long undercover investigation, according to the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO).
ARDEO says officers executed a search warrant on Carlan’s home at 617 Golf Course Road in Demorest. There they say they seized 8 ounces of methamphetamine and $1,300 in cash.
Authorities then arrested 55-year-old Robin Early May of Cornelia for allegedly helping Carlan to distribute the drugs to customers. Police also arrested one of those alleged customers, 52-year-old Keith Lamar Pitts of Mt. Airy. ARDEO says Pitts brought a gram of methamphetamine to Carlan’s house while authorities were searching it.
The street value of the illegal drugs seized is $24,000, according to ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey.
Police arrested Carlan, May and Pitts at Carlan’s house and transported them to the Habersham County jail.
Police charged both Carlan and May with trafficking methamphetamine and sale of methamphetamine. They also charged Carlan with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Police charged Pitts with possession of methamphetamine.
