Quick action by homeowner keeps fire from spreading
Around 10 p.m. Wednesday night, White County 911 dispatched firefighters to a report of a structure in the Sky Lake community. Units from White County and Helen responded, according to a press release from White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.
While firefighters were on their way, Murphy says dispatchers advised them it was a chimney fire and that the homeowner had extinguished it.
Firefighters from Station 3 in Sautee continued to the residence and confirmed that the fire was out. They used a thermal imaging camera to check further for any extensions and found none.
Chief John Lumsden advised the homeowners to have the chimney properly serviced and cleaned prior to any future use.
No injuries were reported.
