Suspicious car leads deputy to alleged drug traffickers

Alto woman one of three suspects nabbed in White County drug bust

An Alto woman and two others are in jail on drug charges after being arrested early Tuesday in White County. A deputy arrested the trio after he spotted a suspicious car driving on Daybreak Road.

The deputy was patrolling the area because of previous complaints of criminal activity. Investigators say it was dark and rainy when the officer saw a car turn onto Daybreak, turn off its headlights, and keep driving. Suspicious, the deputy decided to investigate. He found the car and two people standing outside it in the rain.

“The Deputy witnessed one of these people throw a small quantity of methamphetamine in the floorboard of the car,” says Mitchell Posey with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO).

The White County Sheriff’s Office asked ARDEO for assistance. Authorities searched the car and found approximately six ounces of methamphetamine, two ounces of marijuana, various prescription pills and $4,677 in cash.

Posey estimates the street value of the illegal narcotics is around $20,000.

41-year-old Melissa Jane Grizzle of Alto, 38-year-old David Bryan Ferguson of Flowery Branch, and 28-year-old Cassandra Lynelle Medlock of Sautee Nacoochee were arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

They were transported to the White County Detention Center.

Posey says the investigation continues and additional charges are pending.
