State Offices closed Tuesday due to expected winter weather

Government offices in the northern part of Georgia will be closed Tuesday due to incoming winter weather.

“We want everyone to be safe,” Gov. Brian Kemp said during a joint press conference with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Bottoms announced the City of Atlanta is also closing its government offices due to the weather.

Winter Storm Jayden is expected to bring arctic temperatures and wintry precipitation into North Georgia beginning Monday evening. Beyond the travel headaches, there are concerns about how the storm system might impact Super Bowl LIII week activities. The title game is set to be played at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday.

“We have been in contact with the NFL,” Bottoms said.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews began spreading a brine mixture on state roads, overpasses, and bridges to prevent or limit ice-buildup.

Weather Closings and Delays

By mid-afternoon Monday dozens of schools and businesses across north and central Georgia announced they’d be closed Tuesday.

Now Habersham is monitoring the weather situation and will continue to update the forecast and school/business closings as the situation develops.
