Weekend Hoops Recap: January 25-26

Another action-packed weekend of local hoops!

BANKS COUNTY

A huge weekend for Banks County boys, taking a win over #5-ranked Elbert County, 63-51, and a win over Oglethorpe, 71-51. Carl Cleveland had 22 pts, 10 reb, 5 ast, and 5 blocks vs Elbert, and 44 pts and 17 reb against Oglethorpe. The Leopards are now 10-2 in region play.

The Lady Leopards had a solid weekend as well, grinding out a 50-41 win over Elbert and blowing out Oglethorpe 62-19. Jaycie Bowen and Amber Williams led with 13 points each against Elbert, while Heather Vaughan had 21 against Oglethorpe, and Bowen 10.

COMMERCE

It was a tough weekend for Commerce hoops, as the Tigers dropped a 69-50 to Athens Academy and a tough 56-55 loss to Jackson County. Jalen Dorsey led the way with 21 and 20 points, respectively.

The Lady Tigers took a tough 41-21 loss to Athens Academy, but rebounded with a big 39-31 win over Jackson County.

DAWSON COUNTY

The #3-ranked Tigers cruised to a 78-39 win at Lumpkin County, as 10 players recorded points and four reached double-figures, including a game-high by Luke Chism (16 pts).

The #8-ranked Lady Tigers (13-6; 5-2) also earned a huge region win at Lumkin, coming back late for a 56-53 win. Kaylee Sticker (20 points) and Madison Anglin (19) led the way.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL

The Raiders suffered a heartbreaking 59-58 loss at Winder, while the girls lost 47-29 at Lanier.

JEFFERSON

The #1-ranked Lady Dragons continued their great season with a 70-49 win over East Jackson. Natalia Bolden and Deshona Gaither both had 18 points.

The Dragons also beat East Jackson, 60-42.

LUMPKIN COUNTY

The Lady Indians suffered another hearbreaking loss to rivals Dawson, this time 56-53 despite holding a fourth quarter lead. Mackenzie Pulley reached 1,000 points however in the loss.

The Indians fell handily to Dawson, 78-39.

RABUN COUNTY

The #2-ranked Lady Wildcats ran the win streak to 19 games with wins over Union (64-47) and a close win over Monticello (61-59).

The Wildcats dropped a pair of region games, 62-55 at Union and 54-51 to Monticello at home.

STEPHENS COUNTY

The Indians fell to Hart County, 67-52, while the Lady Indians lost 62-37 on Friday night.

TALLULAH FALLS

The Lady Indians had a perfect weekend with wins over Providence Christian, 61-26, and Hebron Christian, 58-39. The Indians also grabbed two wins over the same teams, 75-40 over Providence and 56-51 over Hebron.

TOWNS COUNTY

The Lady Indians dropped a pair to Prince Avenue, 45-37, and Fannin County, 51-38. The boys meanwhile, split with a win over Fannin, 67-39 after falling to Prince Avenue, 81-44.

UNION COUNTY

The Panthers earned two big region wins, beating Rabun 62-55 and Putnam 52-51 in dramatic fashion. Pierson Allison had 21 against Rabun and Sawyer Drake 23. Allison had 15 against Putnam and Drake 9, including the game-winner.

The Lady Panthers dropped both, including a 64-47 loss to Rabun and 41-32 loss to Putnam. Kait McCarter had 17 points against Putnam, and 8 against Rabun. Ava Hunter had 25 against Rabun and Andelin Hill had 9 in that game.

WHITE COUNTY

The Lady Warriors got a huge region victory with a 53-39 win over Chestatee on Friday. Maddie Futch had a game-best 22 points and 5 rebounds, while Dasha Cannon had 8 points. The Warriors won in dramatic fashion with a 51-49 win over the War Eagles, also.
