It was a weekend chock-full of meaningful region contests and included a milestone achievement for White County’s Austin Harris.
BANKS COUNTY
The Lady Leopards earned a pair of 8-AA wins over Elbert (43-37) and demolished Oglethorpe County, 89-13. The win streak moves to five for the girls, who are now 13-3 and 3-2 in region play. Jaycie Bowen had 16 points against Elbert, and Amber Williams 15. Bowen had 13 against Oglethorpe, while Jenna Reeves had 18 and Heather Vaughan 14.
The Leopards split a pair of region games, falling to Elbert 60-52 in a tough loss. They rebounded with an easy 91-42 win over Oglethorpe, improving to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in region. Carl Cleveland had 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, and Pierce Martin had 20 points in the win.
COMMERCE
The Tigers dropped a pair of region games, losing 62-50 to George Walton and 64-53 to Hebron Christian. Jaylen Dorsey had 26 against Hebron, while Creed Dunbar had 21 in the George Walton game. The boys are 1-14 and 0-2 in region.
The girls split, falling to George Walton 45-37 before beating Hebron 55-41. The Lady Tigers are 9-6 and 1-1 in 8-A play.
DAWSON COUNTY
The Tigers (14-3; 4-1 in 7-AAA) earned a big region win over Cherokee Bluff, 81-57. Luke Chism nearly tallied a triple-double with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists, as well as 4 blocks. Jasper Gibson had 19 points, and Eli Burruss 8.
The Lady Tigers fell in their game to Cherokee Bluff, 63-56. The girls are now 11-6, and 3-2 in region. Freshman Ella Suita led the way with 17 points.
HABERSHAM CENTRAL
The Raiders (2-12; 0-1) fell 91-46 to Gainesville, while the Lady Raiders (3-9) score was unreported at this time.
JEFFERSON
The Dragons (11-5; 4-1) beat Hart County 59-54. Spencer Darby led with 11 points. Jacob Radaker and Kam Robinson each had 10.
The Lady Dragons (14-2; 2-1) edged Hart 66-61 in a top-five matchup. Livi Blackstock led with 18 points, Deshona Gaither had 14 and Natalia Bolden had 10.
LUMPKIN COUNTY
The Lady Indians (13-4; 2-4) fell to North Hall 58-48, while the Indians (5-11; 1-4) score against the Trojans is non-reported at this time.
RABUN COUNTY
The Lady Wildcats (13-1; 5-0) stayed red-hot with a 70-54 win over Union on Friday, and a 57-46 win over Monticello on Saturday. This moves their win streak to 11. Brooke Henricks led the way in the Union win with 20 points.
The boys (2-12; 1-4) split, falling to Union 51-38 before grabbing their first win since December 7 with a 65-61 win over Monticello.
STEPHENS COUNTY
The Indians (11-6; 1-1) dropped two, falling to both St. Pius (71-47) and Franklin County (69-67) in a heartbreaker.
The Lady Indians (4-12; 0-2) dropped both, losing to St. Pius 56-38 and Franklin 43-28.
TALLULAH FALLS
The Lady Indians (11-4; 0-0) beat Atlanta International 55-47. The Indians (5-10; 1-1), meanwhile lost to Riverside Military 77-63.
TOWNS COUNTY
Both the boys and girls are 7-8 overall. The girls split the weekend, taking a win over Providence Christian 51-35 before falling to rivals Hayesville 40-39. The boys did the same, beating PCA 75-42 and falling to Hayesville 53-52.
UNION COUNTY
The Panthers (9-5; 3-2) got two monumental region victories over Rabun on Friday, 51-38, and on Saturday against Putnam, 49-39. Sawyer Drake had 16 in the Putnam game, and Pierson Allison 11. Allison had 20 in the Rabun win, and Drake 15.
The Lady Panthers (9-5; 3-2) split a pair, falling to Rabun 70-54 before a convincing win over Putnam, 46-36. Ava Hunter had 16 in the Putnam win, and Andelin Hill had 13. Hunter had 19 against Rabun and hill had 18 in that game.
WHITE COUNTY
The Warriors (4-12; 0-5) fell to Denmark 73-60. Despite the outcome, senior Austin Harris hit a career milestone with his 1,000th career point. He had 32 points in the effort, and hit a jumper for the mark. “I was happy to see all the hard work pay off, and just wanted to thank all of the people that helped me get there,” states Harris.
The Lady Warriors (8-7; 3-2) won 60-30 in their Denmark game. Bentley Cronic had a team-high 19 points and 7 steals, while Dasha Cannon had 14 points and 6 rebounds.
