Students at the Evelyne Sheats Lower School at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School traveled the globe this month during International Day. Upper School students shared about their home countries and provided Rabun Gap’s youngest students with exposure to cultures from around the world.

The event on Dec. 14 was sponsored and organized by the Global Awareness Panel, a group of international Upper School students. The goal of the event was to give the Lower School students glimpses into the lives of those in different parts of the world and to help expand their global competency. Rabun Gap is home to students from 50 different countries.

Upper School French teacher Anne Shook helped the French Club transform the Lower School dining room into a French cafe.

Several Upper School students gave presentations on their home countries, which included pictures of their countries, traditional food, dress, and other interesting cultural information. Students represented the countries of Serbia, Somaliland, Senegal, Bahamas, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ghana, India and China.

The Spanish and French Clubs were also there to present. The Spanish Club engaged the students by leading Lower School students in a Spanish love song and sharing information about Spain and Mexico. The French Club transformed the Lower School Dining Hall into a French cafe. French students sat at each of the tables and coached the Lower School students on how to order pastries in French.
