Harry “Papaw” McCampbell

Mr. Harry “Papaw” McCampbell, died peacefully at home on December 12, 2018, in Toccoa, GA at the age of 91.

Harry is survived by his children Todd C. McCampbell and Ella Kay McCampbell Schoz; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; he was the last of the children of Atlee and Elizabeth McCampbell of Corpus Christi, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Marie McKay McCampbell of Clarendon, AR.

Harry was born on September 6, 1927 in Corpus Christi, TX to Edwin Atlee and Mary Elizabeth McCampbell. He graduated from Texas A&M in May 1954 with a degree in Animal Service. He married Josephine, in July 1954. After moving to Lexington, Kentucky and finishing a Master’s Degree, Harry moved his family to Griffin, where he began working for University of Georgia as a Researcher. Over the next four years, the couple welcomed two children into their home and Harry and Josie set about teaching them Christian values. His children and grandchildren remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Harry was a generous, witty, dedicated individual who loved his family and who was passionate about helping his children and grandchildren. Harry was an active and dedicated member of the Watkinsville 1st United Methodist Church.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Harry’s life that will be announced in January, 2019.
