(Cleveland) A White County deputy continues to recover from injuries he received in an accident early Sunday morning while patrolling during the recent snow storm.

The accident happened at 12:55 a.m. Sunday, according to Capt. Scotty Scarbrough with the White County Sheriff’s Office. It was snowing and sleeting and visibility was not good.

Sgt. Jared Baker was traveling on Hulsey Road near the White County Convenience Center when a tree that had fallen down caught the right side passenger window of his patrol car. The deputy turned to look, and “like a spear, the tree went through the right side window, striking the deputy and damaging the driver’s side door,” Scarbrough says. “If he had not turned his head it would have been worse.

Sgt. Baker was transported to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries and released later Sunday.

Baker will be out of work for a couple of weeks recovering, Scarbrough says.
