Another piece of Habersham’s past will fade into history this week when the county burns down the old Runway Fish House in Baldwin.
On Friday, Dec. 14, Habersham County Emergency Services will burn down the old restaurant building in a planned training exercise.
“This training burn will allow the fire department and other public safety agencies to practice their fire suppression skills in a more realistic training environment,” explains Habersham County Manager Phil Sutton.
Sutton says flames and smoke will be visible Friday beginning at 3 p.m. in the area near the Habersham County Airport. The training burn is expected to last into the early evening.
The once popular restaurant that served up catfish and buffets closed several years ago. The county purchased the 6.5 acre lot to expand the airport. The airport’s new terminal sits near the old restaurant site.
Any questions about Friday’s planned burn should be referred to the county’s 911 Center non-emergency line at 706-778-3911.
