After the first flurry of games in 2018, we present our early December Power Rankings for Girls Basketball.
#1 JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS
RECORD: 6-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4
The Lady Dragons are up to #3 in the state rankings and off to a perfect start despite a very young team. Proof that winning is a habit.
#1 BANKS COUNTY LADY LEOPARDS
RECORD: 6-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2
The Lady Leopards move into a tie for first. The nucleus of Jaycie Bowen, Amber Williams, Kaitlyn Gilstrap, etc. has been bolstered by the addition of Heather Vaughan. Moving up in the state rankings as well, and a big statement win over Dawson County.
#3 RABUN COUNTY LADY WILDCATS
RECORD: 2-1
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1
A bit early, but Rabun is off to another good start with a minor hiccup. We doubt they will drop many this season. Rabun is a top-10 ranked team in Class 2A.
#3 DAWSON COUNTY LADY TIGERS
RECORD: 4-2
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3
Dawson stands pat at #3 and still a top-10 ranked team in the state. Kaylee Sticker continues to lead the way, but she has a good many weapons around her as well.
#5 LUMPKIN COUNTY LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 8-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8
This girls team is legit! 8-0 to begin the season, and this is likely just the beginning as David Dowse has helped the Lady Indians turn a big corner in its history.
#6 UNION COUNTY LADY PANTHERS
RECORD: 3-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6
The Lady Panthers are off to a great start, so it’s hard to put them so far down on the rankings. However, this is a testament to how well girls basketball is doing in Northeast Georgia.
#7 TALLULAH FALLS LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 6-1
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7
The Lady Indians and Nyah Williams continue to get off to a blistering start. Things are looking good at TFS.
#8 WHITE COUNTY LADY WARRIORS
RECORD: 2-2
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5
The Lady Warriors are a good team, especially with Dasha Cannon. They are in good shape despite a pair of tough losses.
#9 COMMERCE LADY TIGERS
RECORD: 3-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10
Commerce’ 3-0 start moves them up a bit in the rankings. A very good start as it appears the Lady Tigers have turned a corner this season.
#10 HABERSHAM CENTRAL LADY RAIDERS
RECORD: 2-5
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11
Habersham has earned a couple of solid wins for this young group.
#11 TOWNS COUNTY LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 2-3
PREVIOUS RANKING: #12
Towns County would love a couple games back, but it’s not a bad start to 2018.
#12 STEPHENS COUNTY LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 1-4
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9
This young, talented group is working through the growing pains, and will surely rise in due time.
