Delores Dean Magness Odum

Celebration of Life services for Delores Dean Magness Odum (Dutch); 83, of Clarkesville, are scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., at Clarkesville United Methodist Church, with the Reverends Brian Butler, Phil DeMore, and Jan Devereaux officiating.

Body will lay in state from 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Serving as Pall Bearers are grandsons; Elisha Odum, Edward Odum, Mark Odum, Daniel Dean, Eric Trotman and Adam Trotman. Burial will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 14th from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Odum went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2015, following a brief illness.

Born July 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Murlan Magness and Mary Anna Magness of Winder, GA. In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, the Rev. Howard E. Odum; 8 brothers; Herman Magness, Guy Magness, Charles Magness, Sylvester Magness, Herschel Magness, Harold Magness, Chester Magness, and Lester Magness; 3 sisters; Beulah O’Ruark, Gertrude Skinner, and Ethel Rooks; granddaughter, Deborah Suzanne Odum; and son-in-law, Harold Gunn.

Mrs. Odum retired from Clarkesville Mill in 1993 after 21 years of service. Prior to her time at Clarkesville Mill, she was a devoted pastor’s wife and companion in the ministry for 22 years serving alongside her husband, the Rev. Howard E. Odum, until his retirement from the North Georgia United Methodist Conference in 1972. Mrs. Odum was a faithful member and faithful attendee of Clarkesville United Methodist Church. She was actively involved in the Morning Joy Circle, Jetsetters, and the Good News Sunday School class. In addition, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 20 plus years. Mrs. Odum was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. She loved her kitchen and was always cooking and baking for her family or someone else. She was very active and lived life to the fullest. Mrs. Odum was an inspiration to everyone, as she lived her life serving God, family, friends, and so many others who were blessed to know her.

Mrs. Odum is survived by her children: son, Howard Edward Odum; son, John Michael Odum of Demorest, GA; daughter, Dianne Gunn of Demorest, GA; daughter and son in law Teresa and Lamar Dean of Batesville, GA; daughter and son in law Deborah and Lee Trotman of Demorest, GA; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 1 sister, Viola Clack of Winder, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
