On Friday the 9th of November, Mountain Voices Community Chorus and Foothills Youth choir will present their fall concert “Autumn Leaves.” The concert will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Clarkesville United Methodist Church at 7:00 PM. Last fall, the Chorus joined together with Sweet Breads restaurant to offer dessert and a show. Once again this season, Sweet Breads will offer delightful desserts beginning at 6:30, 30 minutes prior to show time.
This concert will feature the music and celebrations of autumn: football games, revivals, falling leaves, honoring our veterans, and Thanksgiving. There are pieces accompanied by four-hand piano, small ensembles’ pieces, and a collaborative piece with members of the Clayton United Methodist Church choir.
Donna James and Emily Allison are the directors this season. Alyssa Sellers is primary accompanist and Rachel Dailey, age 13, is making her accompanying debut. Mountain Voices continues to encourage young adult musicians by allowing them to lead in community choir. It is an important part of the mission of the Mountain Voices organization to provide a place for developing talent in the next generation.
Each season the group grows and changes depending on who is available to sing for that particular concert. Although there is a core group that sings each concert, there are others who sing only one in the summer or fall or spring. Hundreds of singers have been part of the Mountain Voices concerts since its founding in 2007. The current group of singers range in age from 9 to mid-eighties. It is an important part of the mission of the Mountain Voices organization to provide a place for developing talent in the next generation and a place for everyone who wishes to sing. Mountain Voices welcomes new members each season. The next session will begin on January 8, 2019 with the spring concert on March 15. The theme for the spring concert is “Heading Home.”
There is no admission cost for the concert, but a love offering will be taken. Sweet Breads desserts will be $5. Dessert will begin serving at 6:30.
