GSP releases name of man killed Sunday in DUI wreck

The Georgia State Patrol identifies the man killed in a single-vehicle weekend wreck in Stephens County as 32-year-old James Apollo Spratt of Toccoa. Spratt was the sole passenger in an SUV that wrecked near the intersection of Talmadge Drive/GA 17 Alt. and Glade Creek Parkway late Sunday night.

26-year-old Amanda Renee Combs was behind the wheel of a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee when it crashed, according to GSP.

The vehicle was traveling north when it ran off the road in a curve. It traveled approximately 207 feet before reentering the roadway. The SUV then veered across the southbound travel lane and ran off the road on the opposite side. The vehicle ran up an embankment and struck several trees before overturning and rolling back down the embankment. It came to a final rest on its roof on the left shoulder of the road.

Pratt was killed in the crash. Combs suffered unspecified injuries, according to the State Patrol report. EMS transported her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. She was released Monday, according to a hospital spokesperson.

In addition to first degree vehicular homicide and DUI, Combs was charged with open container, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, and seatbelt violations.
