Week 7 Finals & Recaps

The Habersham Central Raiders got back to their winning ways Friday at home against Gainesville. The Raiders defeated the Red Elephants 49-32.

The Raiders scored early and often on their way to the win. It got a little interesting late in the fourth when a 42-17 lead was dwindled to 42-32 and Gainesville had the ball at midfield, but the Raiders put it away with Tracey Lowery’s third rushing touchdown.

Tre Luttrell threw four TD passes, two each to Donovan Curry and DonDon Bailey.

The Raiders are now 4-3 on the season. Next week the Raiders are off. They take on Dacula at home on October 19.

#6 Jefferson 35, Hart County 7

A 7-7 halftime score ballooned to a blowout win for Jefferson, playing sans Colby Clarke, who was out with an injury suffered last week. Donsha Gaither’s 4-yd TD on a sweep play proved the game-winner halfway into the third. The Dragons led 21-7 after three and all-in-all scored 28 unanswered points.

#3 Commerce 42, Lakeview 0

No surprises here…complete domination by undefeated Commerce, who is now 6-0.

Hebron Christian 47, Towns County 0

Officially hard times for the Indians as it suffers a fourth straight loss.

#4 GAC 23, #9 Dawson County 20

So close for the Tigers! Sevaughn Clark opened the scoring with a 30-yard TD in the second to put Dawson up 7-zip. GAC then scored 17 straight going into the break and 23 straight overall. Dawson staged a comeback though with a Dakotah Sonnichsen 8-yd TD. Clark rushed for another score with just over a minute left to cut it 23-20, but the Spartans held on for what stood to be the region title game (probably).

Lumpkin County 42, Cherokee Bluff 19

The Indians trailed briefly 6-0 before a Luke Smith 76-yd TD run late in the first. Cherokee Bluff responded with a score to go up 12-7, but Smith scored again from a yard out, and the ensuing two-point try made it 15-12 Lumpkin, which held into the break. Smith, who had 128 yards in the first half, added TD number three early in the third before Ethan Kline added an 80-yard TD to make it 29-12. Kyle Amburgy (85-yd run) and Tucker Kirk (30-yd run) capped the scoring for the Indians.
