It was a special outing for children and adults with special needs. More than fifty area families participated in a trunk-or-treat event Saturday at the Little League fields in Clarkesville designed specifically for those with special needs. Dozens more helped pull off the event by decorating their vehicles and handing out candy to those who attended.
The event was the brainchild of Habersham’s Rhonda Stamey. “It was a huge success!” she says.
Prior to the event, Stamey said she hoped it would give families such as hers an opportunity to connect. Stamey’s son Nate is autistic. She knows firsthand how isolating raising a special needs child can be.
“It helps to know that you are not alone. Every family has different needs but at the end of the day we are all fighting the same battle,” she says.
