Outgoing Clarkesville Economic Development Director Mary Beth Horton with her husband Brian and children Jack, Madeline, Walter, and Caroline. Mary Beth calls them “My biggest supporters.”
Clarkesville Economic Development Director Mary Beth Horton is leaving her job with the City of Clarkesville to take over as President of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce. Horton fulfilled her last official duty in Clarkesville on Sept. 20th with the downtown Sip & Stroll. She released this farewell letter in the city’s weekly newsletter:
“Thank you so much for the past eight years serving as your Main Street Manager. As many of you may know, I have accepted the position of President of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce. This is my final week here, and your last e-newsletter from me.
This next chapter promises excitement and growth for me and my family, and I would have never been able to take on this new challenge had it not been for the love and support this community has shown me.
This position has always been more than a job for me. It has been a passion and a commitment to see the full potential of this downtown to flourish. Wow- how we have flourished!
The City of Clarkesville is well positioned to see the Main Street organization move into the future, and I know that the next person in this position will keep this momentum moving forward.
I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to so many, but I want to extend this thanks to you all- the ones who read and engage in this email every week. (I used to wonder if anyone ever paid attention to it.) And for you who come to the downtown events, and shop local and volunteer for things. Keep it going.
I will still be very involved in the community, and am forever committed to the betterment of Clarkesville- and all of Habersham County.
With much appreciation,
Mary Beth”
Horton officially assumes her duties at the Chamber on October 15.
