Authorities identify woman whose body was found by golfers in Lake Lanier

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Investigators have identified the woman whose body was discovered near the shoreline of Lake Lanier Friday morning as 53-year-old Tonja Hall of McDonough.

Golfers discovered Hall’s body around 10:45 a.m. in the water near a fairway at Lake Lanier Islands. It was in the vicinity of Legacy and Villa Lanes.

Investigators found the woman’s car parked in the same area where her body was found, says Hall County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Derreck Booth. Some of her belongings, including identification and phone, remained in the vehicle.

The preliminary investigation indicated the body had not been in the water long. An employee of the resort noticed the woman’s car as early as 6 a.m. Friday, in the same spot deputies found it.

An autopsy is being conducted. While the investigation into the death continues, Booth says there is no indication of foul play.
