Toccoa Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly broke into a home and held a knife to a man’s throat. 44-year-old Chad Watkins of Toccoa was arrested after a brief manhunt Thursday morning.
Police responded to the scene of a reported burglary in progress on Hughes Street around 6:16 a.m. When officers arrived they made contact with the alleged victim. He told police Watkins had a gun and was going to shoot him.
A woman at the scene stated Watkins broke in through the basement. He then broke through a blocked door to gain entrance into the home, according to a media release from Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize.
“After securing the scene, officers had Dispatch put out a BOLO for the Watkins subject and a vehicle. Lee Arrendale Correctional Institution was contacted for their K-9 for tracking. Georgia State Patrol and Stephens County Sheriff’s Department were contacted for setting up a perimeter,” the release states.
Watkins was located and taken into custody around 6:51 a.m.
He was charged with 1st degree home invasion and aggravated assault and turned over to the Stephens County jail.
