One year ago today the unthinkable happened. Clarkesville’s historic square caught on fire. If not for the quick response of firefighters the eastern half of the square would have burned to the ground. Several businesses were lost but, fortunately, no one was injured.
The City of Clarkesville will observe a moment of silence/prayer at 12 noon today, Thursday, March 5, to mark the one year anniversary of the Downtown Clarkesville fire. The public event will be held on the lawn by the old Habersham County courthouse and gazebo.
Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler says city hall will be closed for a brief time to allow employees to attend the event. The public is encouraged to attend.
