It’s back to the polls in Georgia as voters in both parties settle primary races to determine who’ll be on the ballot in November. Election day is July 24 but absentee voting is now underway, according to information released by Habersham County Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison.
On the Republican side, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp are vying to become their party’s nominee for governor. The winner of the runoff will face Democratic State Rep. Stacey Abrams at the polls in November.
Rep. Geoff Duncan of Cumming and Sen. David Shafer of Duluth will face off in the GOP runoff for lieutenant governor. The winner will run against Democratic businesswoman Sarah Riggs Amico in the fall.
Former Alpharetta mayor David Bell Isle and Rep. Brad Raffensperger of Johns Creek are in the runoff for secretary of state. The winner will face Georgia’s former 12th District Congressman John Barrow at the polls in November.
In the Democratic runoff, Georgia Association of Educators president Sid Chapman and former president of the National PTA Otha E. Thornton, Jr. are vying to become their party’s nominee for state school superintendent. The winner will take on incumbent Richard Woods in November.
