Clarkesville teen airlifted to hospital following weekend crash

Two area teens were seriously injured in a weekend car crash in Mt. Airy and another teen faces charges in connection with that wreck.

17-year-old Hailey Purdy of Clarkesville was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) in Gainesville Saturday night after the car she was riding in was hit by a pickup truck at the intersection of Hulsey Road and GA 365.

Another passenger in the car, 15-year-old Naomi Crow of Gillsville, was also seriously injured. She was transported to NGMC by ambulance.

As of Tuesday, a hospital spokesperson says Purdy remained in serious condition. Crow’s condition was upgraded to satisfactory.

The two were passengers in a Kia Forte driven by 18-year-old Dylan Wade Lovell of Gillsville, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Lovell was driving west on Hulsey Road when he attempted to cross over the southbound lanes of the highway. A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado C150 driven by 66-year-old James David Rogers of Cornelia ran into the car.

Trooper Aaron Church says the pickup struck the Kia’s right rear passenger door. After impact, the Kia traveled south and struck a stop sign. Both vehicles rotated before stopping.

Rogers and his passenger, 72-year-old Mary Rogers, also of Cornelia, were taken by ambulance to NGMC with minor injuries.

Lovell was also transported to NGMC with minor injuries. The State Patrol says charges are pending.
