Life in Motion: Dog daze

Zeiss (left) and Eliza take a break from the heat at Cornelia's Dog Park on Lavista Street.

“It’s hot!”

If only dogs could talk, that’s what we imagine Zeiss and Eliza would say. Now Habersham’s canine mascot Zeiss (left) and his newfound friend take a break in the shade after chasing each other around Cornelia’s Bark Park.

Eliza is a 1-year-old Cane Corso. Her ‘parents’ are Anthony and Victoria Hooper of Demorest. Anthony brought Eliza and her  older ‘brother’, 3-year-old Hadley, to the park Saturday to let them run off some energy after days of being cooped up inside due to the rain.

Hadley, a chocolate brown Havanese, played it smart and stayed out of the fray as Zeiss and Eliza ran circles around one another and chased balls. All three got relief from the heat at the park’s watering hole.

“We come out here to play, meet new people, and make new friends,” Anthony says of the dog park.

The Cornelia Bark Park – often simply referred to as the Cornelia Dog Park – is located on Lavista Street just down from the Cornelia Community House. There are two fenced in areas – one for small and one for large dogs, a covered pavilion with picnic tables called the Canine Club House, and two fenced-in bathing stations with faucets and hoses.

The park is free and open to the public.

If you haven’t been, check it out. It’s a great place to spend quality time with your four-legged furry friends.
