Sautee man arrested after State Patrol chase and wreck in Mt. Airy

A 36-year-old man from Sautee faces a laundry list of charges after fleeing from State Troopers during a traffic stop in Habersham.

The Georgia State Patrol says Jewel Earl Williams was pulled over for speeding Wednesday night at the intersection of Old Athens and Old Cleveland Highways. After briefly stopping, he fled the scene. Trooper Cadet Cory Andrews and TFC Aaron Church of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa pursued him.

Chase ends in wreck

The chase ended in the area of Camp Creek and Hazel Creek Roads in Mt. Airy when Andrews performed a Precision Immobilization Technique.

GSP says the patrol unit made contact with the 2000 Toyota Camry Williams was driving in the northbound lane of Camp Creek Road. The Camry spun out, ran off the road, struck a street sign and ditch, then went airborne. The car came to rest off the left shoulder of Camp Creek Road facing east.

The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol unit carrying Andrews and Church continued north on Camp Creek. It came to a rest facing north.

No one was injured in the wreck.

Williams fled the scene on foot. The GSP called in Habersham County deputies to assist in the search. Officers arrested Williams a short time later without incident. They transported him the Habersham County Detention Center.

GSP charged Williams with numerous violations including DUI, speeding, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, obstructing or hindering a law enforcement officer, and driving on a suspended or revoked license, among other charges.
