One person seriously injured in Appalachian Parkway accident

(Cleveland)- The southbound lanes of the Appalachian Parkway in Cleveland were shut down for about an hour Monday evening as a result of a vehicle accident.

According to Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt, the accident was just north of Taco Bell. Cleveland Fire and White County EMS responded to the accident around 6:30 PM.

Chief Pruitt said a male driver of a Mercedes SUV was traveling north in the southbound lane and collided with a Honda vehicle.  According to Pruitt the driver of the Honda was trapped and had to be extricated by Cleveland Fire personnel. He was transported to the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle declined transport.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident.
