Smoke rising in the sky east of Cornelia today is from a controlled burn by the U.S. Forest Service.
The prescribed fire covers 1406 acres on the Chattooga River Ranger District in the Farmer Mountain area at Lake Russell. It’s meant to improve wildlife habitat and reduce hazardous fuels.
