(Cleveland) – White County Public Safety Director, David Murphy, advised in a Wednesday afternoon news release of the second positive rabies alert in White County for 2018.
The release stated that a dog had contact recently with a rabid raccoon in the Willet Drive area of White County. The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur and White County Environmental Health was advised Wednesday that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.
The previous positive rabies contact alert was in the area of Ray Pardue Road, around two and one-half miles from this one.
Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located. If you live in this area and have concerns of rabid animal exposure, please contact White County Environmental Health at 706-348- 7698 during normal business hours.
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Please call your local veterinarian for an appointment.
