Habersham County is celebrating its bicentennial this year but it’s not celebrating alone. Neighboring White County was formed from Habersham County land in 1857. During a meeting of the White County Board of Commissioners Monday, Habersham County Board of Commissioners Chairman Victor Anderson presented a proclamation honoring White Countians and inviting them to participate in this year’s celebration.
At the end of the proclamation Anderson said, “and now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the Habersaham County Board of Commissioners, we hereby honor neighboring counties as Habersham Countians in 2018 in celebration of Habersham County’s Bicentennial year. We call upon all to join us in acknowledging and celebrating this momentous occasion.”
Habersham County is planning a series of events throughout the year leading up to the county’s 200th birthday on December 15.
