Power restored to thousands; track outages online

Electricity has been restored to thousands of customers left in the dark by power outages caused by Saturday night’s high winds.

As of midnight Saturday, close to 2,000 HEMC customers were without power in Habersham County. Next door in Rabun County nearly 1,200 Georgia Power customers were without service. As of early Sunday morning only a few isolated outages remained.

With winter weather bearing down on northeast Georgia there’s a strong possibility more outages will occur. Both utility companies offer interactive online maps that allow customers to report and track power outages.

You can find the HEMC outage map at https://outageview.habershamemc.com. The Georgia Power map is located online at https://outagemap.georgiapower.com/external/default.html.
