Clarkesville Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the person who phoned in a bomb threat to a local fast food restaurant.
Police Chief Brad Barrett says someone phoned in the threat to McDonald’s on Washington Street. The caller said an explosive device had been placed in the men’s restroom of the restaurant.
Authorities were notified of the threat just before midnight Saturday. Clarkesville Police and fire units responded to the scene. The area was evacuated.
Police requested assistance from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office for a K-9 trained in explosive detection. Law enforcement and fire personnel conducted a thorough search of the restaurant and surrounding area. “Nothing suspicious was located,” Chief Barrett says.
The person who answered the call told police the suspect sounded like “a younger Caucasian male”.
Police obtained an out of state phone number during their initial investigation. Barrett says at this time that number is not believed to be related to the actual caller. Police continue to investigate leads relating to the caller’s identity.
