TFS boys clinch first region win

The Tallulah Falls School Boys Basketball team had a good week going 2-0 and winning their first region game to put them at 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in the Region.

Friday night TFS hosted George Walton Academy and fell behind at the end of the 1st quarter 14-11 before storming back in the 2nd quarter behind strong post play from Sophomore Matthew Weidner and Senior Tahj Moss and excellent guard play from their two sophomore guards, Hayden Johnson and Winston Davis, playing a bigger role due to the absence of starting point guard, Junior Jake Carver, who was out sick.

After leading at the half by 3 points, 34-31, the Indians stormed ahead behind some great defense by Sophomore Reeves Cody and Senior Akin Akisanya as they held the Bulldogs to 9 points while scoring 18 in the quarter. From there the Indians coasted to a 5 point victory, 66-61 by making key shots down the stretch.

TFS was led by Matthew Weidner who had a great game with 26 points and 12 rebounds against the Georgia Southern Defensive End signee, Senior Torey Zanders.  Tahj Moss had 5 assists and 17 points including a thunderous two-handed dunk and Hayden Johnson had a great game with 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 11 points.  George Walton was led by Zanders with 22 points and Brelan Holston also with 22.

On Saturday, the Indians hosted Pinecrest Academy who had defeated TFS in the first game of the season by a score of 64-58.  The Indians came out with a defensive presence in the first half leading 13-9 after the 1st quarter (with Senior Tahj Moss scoring all 13 points) and led 22-20 at the half.  In the second half the Indians and Paladins of Pinecrest went toe to toe with a 3rd quarter score of 18-18 as the Indians who rarely trailed continued to maintain a slim 2 point lead, 40-38, heading into the final frame.
Matthew Weidner took over the bulk of the scoring and rebounding as the Indians pulled away steadily in the 4th quarter leading by as many as 10 points before settling for the final score of 60-51.
The Indians had a great all around defensive game and key contributions from several players including Hayden Johnson and Reeves Cody with 7 assists combined and great leadership from point gurd Jake Carver but were led in scoring by the duo of Weidner and Moss with 24 and 18 points respectively and 11 and 8 rebounds.  Pinecrest was led in scoring by Josh Boeye with 16 points and Caleb Bohn with 14 points.
The Tallulah Falls School Indians have a big 3 game week against 3 region foes this week and look to continue their winning ways against Towns County in Hiawassee on Tuesday, back home against a very talented Riverside Military team on Friday, and down to Gwinnett County to play Providence Christian Academy on Saturday.
