A Demorest man is charged with DUI following an accident late Saturday that injured him and five others.
William Patrick was driving a 2001 Honda Accord west on Crane Mill Road, crossing GA 365, when his car was struck by a 2009 Dodge Charger, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The Charger, driven by Brian Johnsa of Buford, was traveling south on 365 and hit the Accord in the right front side.
After impact, the Accord spun around and stopped in the southbound lane of GA 365. The Charger ran off the highway, traveled across both southbound lanes, crossed the median and came to a rest in the northbound lanes.
Patrick sustained chest injuries. Johnsa suffered injuries to his lower extremities.
Four passengers in Johnsa’s vehicle also were injured. They’re identified as Jerry Madwell of Flowery Branch; Sue Johnsa of Buford; Norma Madwell of Buford and Debbie Madwell of Flowery Branch. Their injuries ranged from hip and neck to back injuries.
Both sides of the highway were temporarily shut down because of the accident. Traffic was slowed for more than an hour as crews worked to clear the wreckage.
In addition to DUI, Patrick is charged with failure to yield while crossing the roadway and serious injury by motor vehicle.
