It’s official, the Habersham Middle School girls are champions of the Mountain League after a 3-1 win over Banks County Tuesday night.
The girls finished the season with a perfect 14-0 record, and the championship game against Banks County was only the third game decided by three runs or less all season. Two of the three close games came against the same Banks County team, who Habersham beat 11-2, 3-2 and this time 3-1 in a three-game sweep during the season.
Hailey Wade pitched a complete game for Habersham Tuesday night, allowing just one run on two hits and one walk while striking out four batters. Taylor Wade was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Danielle Loggins went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Hailey Wade, Kayla Smith and Katie Deyton had one hit each.
“The girls played well all season long, didn’t give up, and held on to win their last game as well as the tournament,” says head coach Adam Banks.
“We are very proud of how they came ready to play every game and put forth a good work ethic in practice.”
The girls outscored opponents 127-20 throughout the 2017 season, and scored in double-digits in six of their wins. They opened the tournament with an 8-0 shutout win over Union before taking on Banks for the championship. As previously reported, below are the members of the undefeated championship team:
