GDOT to close Richard Russell Highway for storm damage cleanup

Scenic highway connecting White and Union Counties will be closed during work hours Tuesday and Wednesday

(Cleveland)-  The  big clean up work continues following Tropical Storm Irma. As part of that cleanup operation the Georgia Department of Transportation advises they will close  State Route 348, also known as Richard B. Russell Scenic Highway  Tuesday and Wednesday  (September 26 and 27th) from 7 AM until 5 PM each day.

The 11 mile stretch of roadway from White County to Union County is affected.

A GDOT press statement said, the closure of  the highway  will allow the removal of trees and clean up of storm debris to happen faster and safer.
