The Lady Bears began conference play on the road Saturday afternoon against the Lady Rams of Bluefield College.
TMU seemingly dominated most facets of the game in the first half by rifling off fifteen shots and taking three corners while limiting the Lady Rams to only two shot attempts and no corner kicks. It would not take long for the Lady Bears to get on the scoreboard. Jennifer McCall would score the TMU’s first goal in the match with an assist from her sister, Megan McCall, in the thirteenth minute. The 1-0 lead did not cause TMU to ease off the pressure. Consistently possessing the ball and fending off the occasional counterattack, the Lady Bears were able to secure a second goal in the forty-first minute by a shot from Megan McCall, and the score remained 2-0 going into halftime.
The Lady Rams made adjustments which gave them more possession and potential scoring opportunities. The Lady Bears kept their composure and defended all that Bluefield threw their way. TMU added to their lead in the eighty-first minute on another goal from Megan McCall, giving the match its final tally of 3-0.
“I was very pleased with our performance today,” said Coach David McDowell. “Bluefield has improved a lot since last year. So to come here and get the result is excellent.”
The Lady Bears look to build on this win against another conference opponent, Montreat College, at home Wednesday September 20th at 2pm.
