Stoney’s collects donations, offers help to local storm victims

Recovery efforts continue in the wake of Tropical Storm Irma. With so many people in our area affected, many are searching for ways to help. Stoney’s partner Kelli Brookshire is among them.

She’s going above and beyond for her community.

On September 13, two days after Irma hit Habersham, Brookshire announced via Facebook her intentions to deliver hot meals to those in need. “This county has always come through for us,” she said.

Monday’s storm left over 88% of the county without power affecting businesses, including Stoney’s, and citizens alike. Though crews are working endlessly on restoring power, due to the sheer amount, it will take time.”We are lucky to have power, so why not try to help those without,” states Brookshire.

“We have asked for donations for others, people donated more than I ever imagined, so now we want to help all of those that are always willing to help everyone else.”

A helping hand

Lending a helping hand is not new for Brookshire and the Stoney’s crew. In past months they’ve accepted donations for Harvey victims and many local causes. Due to the community’s generosity, Brookshire was inspired to help.

“We have asked for donations for others; people donated more than I ever imagined, so now we want to help all of those that are always willing to help everyone else,” she said.

Many community members also chipped in for the cause.

“Cheryl Baxter and her great-niece, Amber helped deliver at lunch today. We delivered a total of 72 plates,” Brookshire said regarding Thursday’s success.

Brookshire also mentioned her appreciation of the financial generosity of the community as well.

“Tricia Hise of Hotard & Hise just made a donation (September 15) to help cover costs of the meals. This community is so awesome!”

As far as how long Brookshire will run her campaign to help, she states, “As many days as we are needed.”

Brookshire is asking anyone needing a hot meal to contact her via Stoney’s Facebook page or by phone at 706-754-4328.
