Smiling faces needed for group photo shoot on the downtown square Friday, Sept. 15 at 4pm
The University of Georgia magazine has selected downtown Clarkesville as its featured cover to accompany their article entitled “Renaissance Town” for the December 2017 issue.
News of this opportunity came in early September when city officials were notified by editors of the magazine.
“Clarkesville’s collaboration with UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government following the fire of 2014, and the subsequent ‘rebirth’ of downtown through community involvement made our City a standout for the magazine,” explained Mayor Barrie Aycock.
“We are thrilled that they selected downtown Clarkesville for the cover story of its December issue,” stated City Manager, Barbara Kesler. “We have always known that the community of Clarkesville is strong and resilient; now UGA Magazine readers will recognize it as well.”
The magazine photographers are wanting to capture the “essence” of community for the cover, so they are asking for EVERYBODY- residents, business owners, students, elected officials- to come downtown on Friday, September 15th at 4pm for a crowd shot. The photo will be taken in and around Greene Plaza.
“The cover image will portray what community looks like,” explains Mary Beth Horton, Clarkesville Main Street Manager. “The goal is to get several hundred people on the square for this photograph. It definitely took a village to rebuild downtown and that’s exactly what the cover and the article is all about.”
“Plus,” Horton adds, “who doesn’t want to be on the cover of a magazine?”
Photo shoot participants are asked to wear UGA colors – red, black or white.
