History is something the City of Clarkesville takes great pride in preserving. In fact, city leaders have gone to great effort – and expense – in recent years to preserve the town’s historic look and appeal.

Now, that old town charm may be getting a “jolt” of 21st-century convenience. The city is exploring the possibility of installing an electric vehicle charging station downtown. Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler advised during Monday’s council meeting that she would be in contact with Georgia Power so they can “come out and evaluate the area and get the cost.”

The issue may be discussed further at the next work session.

Also, during the August 6 Clarkesville City Council meeting, council members unanimously approved appointments to two local boards. Peter Willis was appointed to represent Clarkesville on the Habersham County Library Board. Jeff Spivey was appointed to succeed Joan Gately on the Northeast Georgia Housing Authority board.
