Banks beats Habersham in Battle of the Heroes

Easton Foundation the real winner

The Easton Foundation hosted the fifth annual Battle of the Heroes Saturday at John Larry Black Field.

Rather than the original setup of Firemen vs Sheriffs, this year Habersham took on Banks County E911 (Fire, Sheriffs, EMS). In a county-vs-county matchup, Banks County won 66-0.

The event included entertainment for all ages, complete with fireworks, bounce houses, inflatables, 50/50 raffles, and a chance to win $100 cash at halftime. Habersham Central’s Band of Blue was on hand as well.

The game was flag-football rules, with a 15-minute running clock, with the exception of possession changes, extra points and the final three minutes of each half. GHSA officials refereed the game, while Lt. Governor Casey Cagle was grand marshal of the event.

The annual event is a fundraiser for the Easton Foundation. The foundation provides programs and scholarships for local youth. It was established in memory of Easton Singleton, a 17-year old Habersham Central High School football player who was killed in a car wreck on April 26, 2012.
