The Piedmont College men’s and women’s track and field teams have been named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams for the 2016-17 season.
This marks the first year Piedmont has made the listing on either side as the track and field program continues to grow.
Piedmont’s women finished with a 3.40 cumulative GPA while the men finished with a cumulative 3.13 GPA. Compared to the Division III competition in Georgia, the men and women finished with the second highest GPA behind only Emory University.
The Lions and Lady Lions excelled both in the classroom and in competition as Piedmont had a pair of USTFCCA All-Region selections for NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field. Sophomore KYLE RAY earned the honor in the men’s pole vault while freshman JULIA GRAHAM earned the spot in the women’s 400m hurdles.
To be considered an All-Academic Team, programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.10 or greater and competed in at least five different meets with at least five runners representing their school at each. A total of 294 teams (183 women’s, 111 men’s) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.
