Four people are in jail following a recent string of drug-related arrests in White County.

Speeding leads to Dahlonega teen’s drug arrest

19-year-old Adrian Cole Jakab of Dahlonega was arrested Thursday, July 6, on possession and weapons charges after nearly hitting a White County Sheriff’s patrol car while speeding.

Officials say a deputy was posted near a fallen tree on Gene Nix Road. He was there to prevent accidents. “Jakab was speeding and had to abruptly stop to avoid hitting the deputy’s car,” says Mitchell Posey with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO).  “Upon the deputy approaching Jakab’s car, he smelled marijuana.”

White County authorities searched Jakab’s car. Posey says they found $3,300 worth of drugs including 3 ounces of marijuana individually packaged to sell along with a plastic container of “DAB” or hash oil (THC extracted from marijuana buds).

DAB (pictured to the left) is a more concentrated form of THC and sells for up to five times more than marijuana buds on the street. “The DAB extraction process can be dangerous if done improperly because it can cause an explosion,” explains Posey.

Officers also recovered a handgun.

Jakab is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule I narcotic (hash oil) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Jakab’s arrest comes one day after a Cleveland man was arrested for allegedly selling meth out of the camper he lived in on Highway 254. ARDEO says 59-year-old Jeffrey Forester was taken into custody following an investigation that was prompted by “numerous complaints” from concerned citizens.

Forester lived in a camper behind Mossy Creek Grocery.

White County authorities say 5 grams of methamphetamine packaged to sell were found on Forester.  He was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and transported to the White County Detention Center.

Investigation ends in arrests

Two Cleveland residents were arrested Monday on drug related charges following  a three month investigation by local authorities.

Cleveland Police Chief John Foster told WRWH Radio that their investigation revealed between two to three ounces of methamphetamine was being distributed weekly.

Officials executed search and arrest warrants at 435 Pine Crest Circle in Cleveland. They arrested 44-year old Lisa Gail Wertz and 29-year-old Ruben Derick Hoffman. Both lived at the residence.

Both are charged with distribution of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug related  objects, and first degree cruelty to children.

Wertz is being housed at the White County Detention Center. Hoffman is being held at the Habersham County Detention Center on unrelated charges.

Foster says, the investigation continues.
