Rival groundhogs differ on winter forecasts

There are conflicting prognostications from the the world’s two most famous groundhogs today.

Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow this morning around 7:25am and saw his shadow on Gobbler’s Knob northeast of Pittsburgh. According to German legend, that means there will be six more weeks of winter.

Farther south and closer to home, the portly groundhog General Beauregard Lee emreged from his lair at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn just after daybreak but did not see his shadow. That  indicates an early spring.

The rival groundhogs differed on winter forecasts last year, too. Which of the two furry forecasters is right this time? We’ll let you know in six weeks.
