Mary L. “Pattie” Jones Henderson, age 82, of Baldwin, formerly of Blue Creek passed away on the Sabbath- Saturday , March 25, 2017. This was something Pattie hoped for with every Saturday that passed after she was placed under hospice.
Pattie was born on July 4, 1934 in Pine Castle, Florida to the late Charles H. Jones and Lula Pinckney Jones. She raised her family in the Blue Creek area of White County before moving to Baldwin ten years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Henderson; two sons, Chris Henderson and Alan Henderson; infant son, Richard Dallas Henderson; grandson, Clint Caudell; infant granddaughter, Emily Caudell; three sisters and one brother.
Pattie had a zeal for life and she loved adventure. She loved to tell stories of riding a camel in Cairo, landing on a glacier in Alaska, flying over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, and one of her favorites- being anointed with water from the Jordan River while visiting the Holy Land. At the age of 75, she traveled to Peru and the basin of the Amazon to spread God’s word as a missionary.
She loved being outside and she was well known for her green thumb. Pattie attended North Georgia College where she studied Horticulture and worked for many years for her sister in law at Eula’s Nursery in Cleveland.
Pattie was a faithful servant of the Lord and praised Him up until her final hours. Through the years, she worshiped at Free Chapel Worship Center in Gainesville and in more recent years she began practicing the beliefs of Messianic Judaism. She worshipped with Truth and Light Fellowship in Habersham County and Hungry Hearts Church of Athens. She also enjoyed travelling throughout the country to celebrate different Feasts and Festivals.
No matter where she had traveled to or what adventure she had been on, some of Pattie’s most enjoyable days were greeting people as they walked through the doors of the “old” Cornelia Wal-Mart. She was known for her warm hugs and her infectious smile. And whenever someone asked her how she was doing, she would always reply- “Greatly blessed, and highly favored.”
Pattie is survived by six children, Debbie and Robert Bowers of Oklahoma, Mark and Mary Henderson of Duluth, Robin and Danny Caudell of Helen, Jeff “Pete” and Setsuko Henderson of Suwanee, Dr. Alberta Henderson and Dan Chapman of Indiana, and Timothy Henderson of Baldwin; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Pattie loved her family and she loved flowers. Her life will be celebrated in the Spring when all of God’s glory will be in full bloom; and when all of her grandchildren will be able to attend.
As a military mother and grandmother, those who serve our Country were very dear to her heart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850.
Pattie’s life will be celebrated at 2 P.M. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland.
