Tallulah Falls School track and field highlights

Track & field is different than GHSA ranking ball sports. Every game for basketball and baseball can count toward the rating system.

HIGH SCHOOL

Track & field advances to the state competition via the Area and Sectional meets so everything we do is geared toward those progressively important meets.  This allows for individual, relay, and team development.  As such, we tinker at times to try new events, go for school or personal records, and find out which events will be our forte.  Sixteen teams competed at the Eagle Invite and there was plenty of Class A-7A talent spread across all event areas.

Perry Gresham earend the TFS Athlete of the Meet honors for her multiple races.  She ran 6:03.88 in the 1600m, only one second off her school record.  She also ran very well in the 800m (2:45.24) and both relays, a very tough quadruple for a distance runner, yet she ran faster as the day wore on.

Anne Edwards, Sunni Brett, Anna Davis and Gresham established a DMR (distance medley relay; 1200m – 400m – 800m – 1600m legs) school record (15:42.89)  Scorers during the long day included Anna Davis (3rd in 300m hurdles in 48.43, the top class A-Pvt mark at this time), Sydney Porter (4’6 5th in high jump), Sophia Kahwach (6th in pole vault in 7’ 0), and the 4×4 relay (Sydney Spivey, Gresham, Brett, and Davis ran 4:32.07 for 7th place and the present #2 Class A-Pvt time).

Caleb Griffis, Thala Freeman, Zatrick Pearce, and Chris Geiger (12:16.36) established the TFS DMR record.  Freeman threw well in the shot put (38’ 8), Pearce ran very well in the relays, and Chance Bess set a personal record in the discus (102’ 1).  Eric Hogan (9’ 0) and Gabe Iluma (8’ 6) began their state meet quest in the pole vault.

Next meet:  Bo James Invite, Friday, March 10 at Rabun County HS 4:00.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

A few TFS middle school athletes shined their light at a competitive, non-scoring early season track & field meet at Jackson Co that included the host, Commerce, and Oglethorpe.

Grey Bourlet earned the TFS Athlete of the Meet award by winning the 100m hurdles in a school record time (15.70), the pole vault (9’0), and running the fastest legs on both relays.

Andrew Kivett won the 1600m (5:27) and 3200m (11:24).  Simeon Respress won the triple jump (32’ 9 ½ ) and placed second in the long jump (16’ 7).  Lucy Alexander won the 3200m (12:36) and placed fourth in the 1600m (6:40). Sydney Coffee won the girls 6lb shot (27’ 8).  Brinna Docsol vaulted 5’ 0 for second place in the pole vault.

Joe Griswold placed third in the triple jump (27’ 10) and Jack Green was third in the discus (64’ 2).  Collin Kelly and Ethan Wanner set personal records in the 800m and 1600m. Macy Murdoch also ran very well.
