The Piedmont College women’s basketball team now knows its opponent for the 2016-17 NCAA National Tournament First Round with a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina approaching.
The Lady Lions will play at Guilford in the opening weekend taking on Albright College on Friday, March 3.
This marks the first meeting between the two in the NCAA Era as Piedmont enters with a 21-7 record after winning the USA South Tournament title Saturday while Albright enters at 22-5 after dropping their tournament title game 53-50 to Messiah.
The Lady Lions head to the National Tournament after earning the USA South’s automatic berth with their 58-44 victory over Maryville College on the Scots home court.
Also joining the Lady Lions for the opening round in Greensboro are host Guilford College (24-3) and Marymount (Virginia) University (22-5) who will face one another Friday. The winners of those two contests will face off Saturday in the second round.
Game times for all contests will be announced later tonight or tomorrow morning with an updated schedule available on PiedmontLions.com as it becomes available.
