TMU Golf Teams Earn Low Medalists at Mossy Creek Invitational

The Truett McConnell golf teams participated in a one day tournament with Reinhardt and Bryan last Thursday at Mossy Creek Golf Course in Cleveland.

The tournament format was to give the younger players a chance to participate against each other, and to help build some quality depth and relationships amongst the competitors. There was not a team competition during this event, but there was an all-tournament team which consisted of the top five men and top five women.

For the men’s team, freshman Duncan Taylor won low medalist honors shooting a 71. Another freshman, Jameson Deering, also made the all-tournament team for the TMU men with a 74.  Lucas Coffelt from Bryan and Chris Whitney from Reinhardt finished tied for second with identical 73s, Bryan had two other players shoot 74 and Reinhardt did as well to round out the all-tournament team.

On the women’s side, another TMU freshman, Eve Burroughs, brought home the low medalist honors with a 78. Eve’s 78 is only the second known women’s 18-hole score to be in the 70’s in TMU history. Joining Eve on the all-tournament team from TMU was freshman Shantelle Stauffer with an 82 and freshman Teagan Lovingoodwith an 85. Bryan placed two women on the all-tournament team with Emily Hutson shooting an 83 and Liz Albert shooting an 84.

The TMU golf teams both kick off their regular season on Monday, March 6 at Silver Creek Plantation in Morganton, North Carolina, hosted by Montreat.
