This is what Benjamin Long’s truck looked like after it rolled several times on GA 365 in Mt. Airy.
A 24-year old Cornelia man is lucky to be alive after his Toyota pickup truck overturned several times on GA 365 in Mt. Airy. The accident happened Sunday evening at the intersection of GA 365 South and Hazel Creek Road.
“He wasn’t hurt. He had his seatbelt on and came out unscathed.”
Benjamin Long was traveling southbound in the left lane negotiating a curve. He told State Troopers he swerved to miss a car that was moving into his lane from the right-hand side of the highway. When he swerved, the truck’s front left tire left the roadway and ran into the median. Long lost control of the pickup and fishtailed. The truck flipped two or three times and came to rest on its top, according to TFC Brady Galloway.
“The top of the truck passenger side was caved in almost to the seat,” describes Galloway. Amazingly, he says, Long was uninjured. “He wasn’t hurt. He had his seatbelt on and came out unscathed.”
Fortunately, there were no passengers in the truck at the time of the accident.
While Long walked away from his wreck, at least one person was transported to the hospital following a second accident that occurred shortly afterwards in the northbound lanes of GA 365 in the same area. Galloway says a car was rear-ended after it apparently slowed in response to the first wreck.
Both accidents briefly shut down several lanes of the highway.
