A Clarkesville McDonalds employee is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly throwing scalding coffee onto a co-worker.
Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett says the incident occurred Monday at the fast food restaurant on Washington Street. He says the initial investigation revealed two female juvenile employees got into a “verbal confrontation” over the suspect’s boyfriend.
As the altercation escalated, the 15-year old suspect threw a milkshake at the 16-year old victim.
“Testimonial evidence indicated that the victim then attempted to turn and walk away from the offender. While the victim was doing so, the offender picked up a fresh poured cup of scalding hot coffee, and doused it onto the back, and torso of the victim,” says Barrett in a press release.
The victim suffered serious burns to her back and torso. She was transported to Habersham County Medical Center for treatment and referred to the Atlanta Burn Center due to the severity of her injuries.
Police were alerted to the incident around 9:45 p.m., some four hours after the altercation took place. Officers attempted to locate the suspect at her residence. She fled out the back door and was arrested a short time later. Officials are withholding her name and the victim’s name due to their ages.
The case remains under investigation.
